The current state of technology

Solar technology has made huge strides in recent years. This is the current state of play.

Very high cell efficiency

Current cells have an efficiency of 24% and are homogeneously black. This means that 24% of the energy incident on the solar module can be converted into usable electricity. You can recognise modern solar modules by the many (between 5-12), very thin silver strips (so-called busbars) on the cells.

How much power do current solar modules generate?

Current solar modules produce between 340 and 460 watts. That is about the same as two large televisions. The standard modules have 60 solar cells.

Glass-foil solar modules: affordable workhorses

Glass-foil solar modules consist of front glass, encapsulation foil, cells and rear foil. These modules are reinforced with an aluminium frame to increase their load-bearing capacity. Advantages:

  • High performance
  • Small investment
  • SWISS MADE possible

Glass-glass solar modules: almost indestructible performers

These modules have glass on both the front and the back. Technically speaking, they are laminated safety glass with the corresponding safety features. These modules are extremely resilient and do not require a frame. Further advantages:

  • High performance
  • Long service life (50+ years)
  • Extraordinary load capacity (up to 1300 kg/m2)
  • SWISS MADE

Customised solar modules – automatically manufactured

It is possible to manufacture completely individual solar modules. The colour, size, shape and glass surface can be chosen freely. This way, buildings can be designed exactly according to your ideas. Megasol Energy Ltd. is one such solar manufacturer in Switzerland. Other highlights:

  • All colours, patterns and even photos can be displayed
  • Precisely fitting installation on facades or roofs
  • All individual solar modules are SWISS MADE
